Do blue-cut lenses actually work?
Reviewed by Dr. Shyam Ajwani, Optometrist
Blue-cut lenses are everywhere now — but do they do what the ads claim? Here's the honest answer.
What blue-cut lenses are
They're lenses with a coating or material that filters some of the blue-violet light from screens and LED lighting. That part is real and measurable.
What they can help with
Many people find screens more comfortable and report less end-of-day eye tiredness. Comfort is a reasonable, honest reason to choose them — especially if you're on a screen 6+ hours a day.
What they can't do
The evidence that blue light from screens damages your eyes or ruins your sleep is weak and contested. We won't tell you blue-cut lenses prevent disease — because that isn't established. If a seller promises a cure, be sceptical.
Our honest take
If you spend long hours on screens and want more comfort, blue-cut is a sensible add-on — it's included in our Advanced lens package. If you don't, you're not missing out on anything medical. That's the kind of straight answer a doctor-owned store should give.
